Tonight!

Our opening night features that superb duo, Carole Palmer & Maria Barham as our guest artists.

anker_ceansley_morris_2We will also be treated to a pre-event dance spectacular with Anker Morris Men and Ansley Morris, starting at about 7:00pm.

Come along early and enjoy an evening of excellent dance and superb song in a convivial atmosphere with magnificent ales and beers.

(Sounds good; I might go myself …)

We have already booked guest artists well into 2014, and we are sure we will be able to offer the best in local and (inter)national talent, too, as our fame spreads. 🙂  Make sure you check out the list of dates.

Floor singers are always mightily welcome, of course; just email phil@atherstonefolkclub.org.uk and we will make sure you get a chance to strut your stuff.

The club is mentioned on the first ever broadcast of Gentlefolk2 with host Norman Wheatley, as are our guests for the evening, Carole Palmer and Maria Barham.

Carole Palmer and Maria Barham are 2 established singer-songwriters who met at a festival and decided to work together to see if their music ‘gelled’. It did and does and, though still available as solo artists, they can be heard performing their songs together with great effect, with beautiful close harmonies enhancing their lyric-based self-penned songs, thoughtfully chosen covers and traditional folk songs.

Maria often refers to herself as ‘the slowest songwriter on the planet!’

As a solo artist, after many years of playing a wide repertoire of covers up and down the country, in bars, pubs, restaurants etc (which she still does), Maria has  decided to concentrate more on writing and performing her own songs again. She is just as comfortable playing in a noisy bar as she is a quiet Folk club, where she’ll happily perform her own and Tradional folk songs. She will change her material to suit the location, situation, or event with the odd surprise thrown in, depending on how the evening is going!!

In her previous life on the folk scene, she supported such artists as Martin Simpson and Dick Gaughan.

Maria isn’t a multi-instrumentalist; she just dabbles with various instruments and uses them when needed for recording purposes.  That is why, if you see her live and solo, it will be just her and her guitar.

She can also, of course, be found performing with excellent singer/songwriter Carole Palmer.

Maria has 2 Albums available: ‘Like Home’ and ‘Take the Tide’.

Carole says: “I’ve been writing songs and singing forever. Check out the songs and make up your own mind. Come to a gig, that’ll give you more idea of what I do. Well, I write songs. And then I sing ’em. But you knew that.”

Well, why not “Come to our gig, that’ll give you more idea of what they do”.
