The Lost Art
Gordo Francis & Greg Hooper formed The Lost Art in June 2012 and quickly established a reputation as a fascinating live act, dazzling audiences with their skilful fretwork, subtle vocal blend and finely nuanced duo dynamic. Through their humble yet committed approach to collaboration the duo enjoy an enriched musical fusion where anything is possible, and audiences enjoy being kept on the edge of their seats!
The Lost Art comfortably draw on an extensive range of influences and experience in the creation of their own sound. Gordo started his musical career as a drummer in a math metal band whilst studying Music Production and Sound Design, and has since gone on to write string quartets and score music for short film. His influences range from Simon & Garfunkel, Nick Drake and Ben Christophers to Messiaen, Taverner and Dufay! Similarly, Greg has always balanced a classical background with an intuitive love of rock music – he has orchestrated scores for television and film projects (including Exodus: Gods & Kings last year) and performed national premieres of contemporary piano pieces, but would still highlight his discovery of Led Zeppelin during his teenage years as being a groundbreaking life event. People often find it hard to believe that they are both self-taught guitarists and singers, and both would agree that they enjoy a lack of inhibition in songwriting – a space where they are free to create their own rules.
Following the release of their debut album in December 2014, the dynamic duo are embarking on 3 UK tours in 2015 and have already had the pleasure of supporting acts such as Cara Dillon, Blair Dunlop and Lotte Mullan. For many of their upcoming dates, they will also be joined by long time collaborator, Tim Hooper (Greg’s brother,) whose flair and creativity on percussion brings an extra level of fizzling energy and punch to their live sets!
