Spring Sing
After the fabulous singers’ night in August, we decided to do another one.
The recipe will remain the same, just get in touch to be included. Lots of 10 minute spots available.
Please contact Phil Benson if you want to perform, but spots may still be available on the night, subject to the time available, of course.
Floor Singers booked to perform on the night …
Malc and Gill
As a duo, Malc & Gill, not surprisingly with their backgrounds, have a wide diversity of material, both traditionally and contemporary based, and ranging from clever harmony work to humour and even a serious ballad or two, performed either a-capella or with Malc’s pleasantly understated guitar accompaniment.
Pete McParland
Pete performs regularly, and with acclaim, at numerous folk clubs in the Midlands. Songs from the 60s and 70s are his forte, but he wanders into other areas, too, with great success.
Maria and Jak
Maria and Jak are two Fray’d Knot buddies playing as a duo.
Catchy sing-alongs will help keep us doing just that.
The Paper Circus
The Paper Circus are a Midlands based acoustic and folk band. They are influenced by such bands as Bitter Ruin, Florence and the Machine, Loreena McKennitt and Tori Amos.
Vocals/Keys: Jen King
Guitar: Suraj Nagar
Cello: Jim Park
Dave Fry
Dave started by playing a Chad Valley tin banjo, when he was 10 years old, till he blistered his thumb and he was hooked! He bought his first home-made guitar at twelve. He played in beat groups in Cumbria in the swinging 60s, then found folk at 17. He fell in love with twelve-string guitar at 18 and has been playing one ever since.
Brian Phillips
A regular performer on the folk music scene in the Midlands and the West Country, he gives all he has, whether it be a floor spot at a club night, or as the principal artist on the main stage at a festival.
Nunc
Formed in November 2014, they are Flossy McDougall, Geoff Veasey and John Kearney. Flossy sang and recorded previously in Pennyroyal along with Linda Dickson and Sue Dixon. Geoff sang and recorded previously with Black Parrot Seaside. John is a respected singer/songwriter originally from Cork, with a previous background in pretty well everything from Punk to Country. Flossy plays a bit of guitar and John plays rather a lot. All three like colourful stage clothes.
Dave Webb
Dave is definitely Bedworth’s candidate for ‘The oldest Singer in Town’. A former miner (as well as other trades) Dave is a traditional guy with a repertoire of traditional songs many of which tell the story of miners and their families.
He has also written a few songs about his own time down the local pit and has now introduced several monologues into his repertoire which invariably get audiences laughing.
Elaine Meechan
Elaine, keyboard and accordion player in many an ensemble, has that rare talent that true musicians possess; the ability to empathise with those she performs with. She is an important part of a number of folk-related bands in the area.
John Meechan
John has been on the folk scene for 40-odd years. Hailing from Yorkshire, many of his songs are rooted there.
His passion for folk songs has resulted in a wide-ranging repertoire, always particularly well-presented.
And your hosts, of course, are
Finger In The Jar
Formed especially as the host group for Atherstone Folk Club in June 2013, Finger In The Jar are Anne & Steve Beeson and Phil Benson.
Finger In The Jar perform as a group, as duos and as solo artists, depending on the songs being sung.
… and there are still floor-spots available!
Just email Phil and ask.
